Build Ohio has
accomplished a great deal since its launch in 2002. It has seen its
promise of quality in early care and education come alive for
thousands of young children in our state. Now as the organization
transforms from board-driven to state-driven, it is time to reflect
on the many achievements triggered by this innovative public-private
collaboration.
While the need
for Build Ohio as an independent collaboration of public and private
partners is no more, the work of the organization continued at the
highest level of state government, through the
Early
Childhood Cabinet. The Board took action in 2008 to transfer
activities to the cabinet, a move that mirrored other Build states
in functionality and oversight. This natural evolution facilitated
improved efficiencies, a reduction in duplicative services and a
streamlined process for decision making and implementation. A
stakeholder advisory group worked closely with the cabinet to assure
that voices from citizen-based organizations and advocacy groups
across Ohio continued to be heard.
Ohio will remain a Build state, and will continue to contribute to
the Build national movement that is redefining early childhood for
our children and their families.
